Wow, that was fast.
Seems like a few months ago that Maryland was hoisting the trophy during championship weekend. But no, that was in May. That was 8 months ago.
The annual cycle of the seasons did its thing and we are now less than two weeks away from the start of lacrosse season. But this year will be a bit different.
I’ve generally not really thought much about lacrosse until it was closer to the NCAA tournament. Sure, I’d follow Notre Dame and the Terps. I’d watch a game every once in a while.
Whole new ballgame
But since I started LacrosseReference, it’s a whole different ball game.
Last year was a wild ride. I started posting content to the site in February, but it was sort of like I was shouting off the back of a cruise ship into the night. What if no one in the lacrosse world even stumbled across my site? What if no one except my mom ever read it?
Well, it turns out that those fears were unfounded. Lots of people read the site. And so this year, I’ll be starting the lacrosse season with a base of readers who will (hopefully) be happy to see new content on the site.
Don’t hold your breath
I’ll continue to approach the site like I always have. I’ll work on stuff when it’s the most interesting to work on at the time. I’ll let the automated parts of the data collection and analysis process do their thing. And hopefully, I’ll continue to attract more and more eyeballs.
It’s certainly not the project that I’m most hot and heavy with right now. But it’s notable for another reason. It is very rare that I take months off from a project and come back to it with anywhere near this kind of excitement.
That will make for a fun spring.
